Yoshida Fire Festival (One of Japan's Three Unique Festivals)
The festival, held on August 26th at the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and the Suwa Shrine on its grounds, is a representative event of Fujiyoshida City. It signals the end of the climbing season on Mount Fuji, with a procession carrying a mikoshi (portable shrine) shaped like Mount Fuji, called "Goe," from the shrine to the O-Tabiso area of Upper Yoshida. Upon arrival, a 3-meter-tall bonfire, called "Daimatsu," is lit. The scene becomes akin to a sea of fire, earning it a place as one of Japan's Three Unique Festivals.
